Spray Adhesives

Are any of you paper crafters?  Card Makers?  Scrapbook Lay-outers (yes I just made that word up)?  Lately it seems like I have been making lots of paper products, I recently finished the place cards, and now I am working on something for one of my oldest and best friends!  The problem I seem to have is that I love to layer paper, I love the look it creates.  I love my tape runners, but I have been going through them like crazy!  Last night I ran out of my beloved tape runner and I didn't want to go to the store so I went digging around for some other kind of tape or glue and stumbled upon a bottle of spray adhesive I bought a long time ago.
My new bff!
My next issue, I only had 3 boxes to use to spray on.
After I gunked up all the sides of the boxes and still had tons more paper to spray I had to no idea what to do.  I double checked the house for more boxes and couldn't find any  :(  I went into the kitchen thinking maybe I could use one of my junky cutting boards and spied a stack of catalogs and magazines.  And this was an amazing find!  Why you ask?
Because I sprayed my 4 pieces and then turned the page to a brand new non-sticky, non-tacky surface!  One more use for all of the magazines and catalogs that pile up on the counter top!  Want a sneak peak of what I have been working on?
I can't wait to show you the finished product, it should be done tonight!

Dear Tuesday....

Dear Tuesday,
I like you as much as I liked yesterday (which I hated).  I am moody and grouchy and in a funk.  Nothing seems to be going right and I want to cry :(  Can we please skip today and make it Friday when my Sisters will be here and I no longer have to think about work?  Please Please Please!!!

Kenzie

p.s.  Dear, Wed and Thurs.....I think I hate you already too

Plates & Platters

I am currently addicted to using plates and platters in my decor.  I think the biggest reason that I love them is that you can pick them up at the Dollar Store or the thrift store for about $0.50 each!  There are so many ways that you can decorate them, I thought I would share my ideas!
I really, really, really like the way this turned out.  All I used was jute, my glue gun, scrapbook paper and stamps.  I picked faith, love and hope because I like to have little reminders around the house about what is truly important.
This is displayed in my entertainment center.  I got the cute little potted plant at Alco on clearance for $1.50 (I actually bought them out, 9 clearance plants!?!?) and the picture is from my senior year in High School, it's me, my sister and my cousin during volleyball season!
I used jute, ribbon and paper again.  Love is Patient!  So true, especially when it comes to the little ones!
Displayed in another shelf in the entertainment center.  That is a pic of me and my hubby in Las Vegas when we were still dating!
I am also obsessed with monograms!  Please excuse the tags on the plate stands, I couldn't find the scissors when I put them up and they sit up high where no one can see them  I splurged on the white platter, I bought it at WalMart for $4 i think and the black plate was a quarter at the thrift store.  I simply glued some scrapbook paper onto the center of the platter and used my Cricut to cut out the H.  The polka dot plate was inspired by Jen at Tatertots and Jello, click here to see hers!

Mommy Ramblings

I try to limit the amount of time my kids get to spend watching TV everyday.  They get to watch cartoons for 1/2 every morning while they get ready to go.  Generally we don't turn on the tv until after dinner, however I do make exceptions when both of my kids are really grouchy and whiney and I have to get dinner made!  Their channel of choice.....Nick Jr!  This is a channel that I can turn on and not have to worry about the language being used.  The shows are interactive and teach a variety of subjects, the girls love Dora.

However the other night we were watching TV and I can't remember what we were even watching (nothing too bad because the girls were still up) but there is a new Reebok commercial out that uses the word butt.  Now I know this isn't an awful word, but my kids aren't allowed to use it(and neither was I until I moved out of my mom's house).  They also can't say shut up, crap, God or any of the other words like this.

I find it very disturbing that we can't even watch TV anymore at night without hearing some kind of foul language.  How many cuss words are allowed on TV and radio?  Too many!!  I grew up listening to country music and still listen to it today.  But it seems like I don't even want to listen to the radio with my kids in the car because of the foul language.

I often wonder what is wrong with the majority of todays children...I recently drove by an elementary school and saw young girls with thong underwear visible and belly shirts.  I saw 2nd graders with cell phones!  I am not trying to be judgemental but I want better for my girls.  I want them to value themselves and cover their bodies, I want them to respect adults, I want them to use their manners at home and in public, I want them to be well educated and think about what they are saying and how it sounds, I want them to work for things that they want so they realize that hard work does pay off.  Rules, regulations and laws have allowed awful language on TV and radio and reality shows give false perception of life.  Too many children are given things, never having to earn them.

I guess what I am saying is that I am sad for our children today.  I ask God to give me the strength to not go with the flow or what's cool and teach my children better, even if it means saying tushy and please be quiet!

Update - Picnic, Picnic, Who Loves a Picnic?

Update on the picnic table project!  I finally got the picnic table stained and added some vinyl lettering to the seats!
The girls picked out their vinyl color (it's pink kind of hard to tell, extremely overcast and gloomy today).  Kielyn requested the hearts!
I love it and the girls love it!  I included the original post below if you would like to see my Uncle's amazing shop or see the action photos of the build!

Original Post.....
My girls love picnics!  Tuesday night the weather was perfect and by perfect I mean 70 degrees perfect.  The girls were out playing in the back yard and I was grilling steaks.  Kielyn asked me if we could eat outside and I told her that we could.  So I hauled the booster chairs out of the dining room (kind of a pain because they are strapped down and mostly because I am lazy) and set them up at the table.  They still had a hard time eating because the patio chairs are so deep and they can't quite reach the table.  So I decided that they needed their own table.  So I went out in search for plans for a picnic table online.  And that's when I met Ana, my new bff!  Have you been to Knock Off Wood?  Her site is amazing!  She has plans for everything that you have ever drooled over in the expensive catalogs and can't afford (and the reason I don't mention store names is because recently she received a letter from the lawyers of the big store for infringement reasons).   Anyway go check her out, her site is amazing!

So Furlough Friday Craft Day went off without a hitch!  I was complaining last because the weather was supposed to be bad today and I called my uncle this morning to borrow a couple of tools and he offered to let me use his shop.  So this is what I worked in today!

Can you say love?  Everything you could ever want or need is in his shop.  Table saw, Miter saw, Jointer, Router Table, sanders, drills, bits and so much more.  I ♥ his shop!  So bright and early I headed to Ace to pick up my wood.  I decided to use redwood, it's a little more expensive but less splintery and with my amazing instructions I got started.  First I cut my wood according to Ana, did I mention how much I love her?!?!
Following the instructions I carefully put it together, here are the action shots(kind of, I was by myself and someone had to take the pictures)...insert Tim the Tool Man grunt here!
Table top assembled.
Table top supports.
Leg assembly, I now love clamps!
Look, they stayed on!
4 legs!  After this step I did set the table on the ground to check for wobble and levelness and my table didn't wobble.  Yay for me!!
Bench supports going in, the men in my family would be so proud of me, not only did I make sure the board was level on the side I was working on but I also checked to make sure that it was level to the other support, don't want the kiddos sliding off.
Good to go!
Checking for wobble again.

I am linking up with Fireflies and Jellybeans Show Off Your Stuff party here.  And Just A Girl for Show and Share day here!
And Fingerprints on the Fridge for Feature Yourself Friday here!
And Finding Fabulous for Frugaliscious Friday here!

Wedding Place Cards

I am finally finished with the place cards!  I am so excited, 2 weeks is not enough time for 180 personalized cards, especially when I have to wait for the 9 o'clock Dance of Joy! before I can start them!
I need to remember to take some better pictures tomorrow!  Luckily for me I emailed her a picture earlier and she loves them!  Which is such a relief...I was really nervous that she wouldn't be "in LOVE" with them.  Just wanted to show them off.  Have a wonderful weekend!

First Blog Award!

I am so excited!  My new friend Nikki @ ! Cheap Like A Birdie ! bestowed me this amazing little ray of sunshine in my day!  My first blog award!

I am supposed to pass this on to 12 amazing bloggers and I will but I have 2 days left to finish the place cards and I am so close to being done that I will stay up for a few more hours to work on them.  If you haven't been over to Nikki's blog go check it out, she is amazing!

Adding Links?? Please Help!

I think I am having a blonde day! How do you add links to someone's post or your own at the very bottom after the comments?  I have them turned on because someone added a link to one of my posts.  But every time I try I get this box....
And when I click the Publish Post button it just adds a new post to my blog.  Can you add links to your own posts or does someone else have to do it?  I really want to like to other people's post when I craft-lift their ideas.  This is what I want to do....
Someone else added this to one of my posts.  Help me please!

I Almost Ran Over an Old Guy on a Moped.....

On Monday I literally almost ran over an old guy on a moped and raced a trash truck for this.....
Can you say solid wood cabinet doors, 4 feet tall?  I say love!  On Monday morning I was dropping the girls off on my way to work and I spotted them, but I was already running late for work and couldn't stop.  So I dropped the girls off and went to work, thinking about the doors all morning long.  I had meetings scheduled for the morning so I couldn't even run up and rescue them, so my meetings got out a few minutes later and I hopped in the car and raced home!  And there they still were, I beat the trash man 2 minutes!
And here they stand beside my house.  This is my husband and my conversation when I drug him outside to see what I found.

Husband: What are you going to do with those?
Me:  Not quite sure yet, I will come up with something.  They are amazing and they are solid wood!
Husband:  You are going to turn our house into a dump.
Me:  No I'm not, they are amazing and free!  I rescued them!

Needless to say he wasn't nearly as excited about my find as I was.  So the place card order is 75% complete which means I will be able to work on more of my projects!  Happy 9 o'clock Dance of Joy!

Dishing It Party @ Serenity Now

I made a new friend today!  Her name is Amanda at Serenity Now.  She is having a party about getting to know our fellow bloggers!  She also has a post on blog etiquette that I am in love with!  So my name is Kenzie and I'm here to introduce my blog and make new friends!

~How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since December of 2008 and what I mean by that is I posted an amazing 5 posts in 2008, 4 posts in 2009 and 29 posts in 2010.  I am now addicted and am an avid blogger.

~Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging to tell stories about my family, my life and it was an easy way to share information with my family.  I fell off the wagon!  I then came across some crafting blogs and was reinspired.  I always have some sort of craft or project going and I thought it would be really neat to be able to share my crafts, projects, and thrift finds with everyone.

~Tell me about your blog's title. Why did you choose it?
9 o'clock Dance of Joy....The 9 o'clock Dance of Joy is what happens when the kids and husband go to bed and I have a little "me" time.  Time to play on the computer, time to craft, time to watch "real" tv (no cartoons), time to myself to reflect on the day without the sticky fingers helping hands of my little girls!  I chose the title because I remember mom telling me about her 9 o'clock Dance of Joy when we were little and never truly understanding the meaning behind it until I had my girls.

~What do you blog about?
Mainly I blog about the craft projects I have going on and my bargain finds that I makeover.  But I do blog about my life and my family as well.

~What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Making new friends!  It is nice to be able to connect with people who share the same interests as me.  I love finding inspiration from other people's creations, reading their stories about their kids and crazy lives and sharing hints, tips and tricks for crafting and being a Mom.

~If you had to choose one famous person to become your blog's next devoted reader, who would you pick?
I have no idea....is that sad?

~What's the funniest comment you've ever received on a blog post?
No hilarious comments that I can recall.  Only nice comments!  :)

Do you want to make some new friends?  Link up to Amanda's party!
